Clark-Houston papers, 1903-1976.

The collection contains correspondence, financial records, notebooks, and other memoranda concerning the careers of Clark and Houston, and the various art and civic organizations of which they were active members. Included is information on the League of Women Voters and other equal suffrage groups for women and African-Americans; Richmond Academy of the Arts, the Art Commission, and other art groups and schools; the Richmond Training School for Kindergartners; and the Lila Meade Valentine Memorial Association, among others. There are also various advertisements, invitations, programs, and other ephemera, periodicals, and numerous newspaper clippings.

The Equal Suffrage League of Virginia was organized in 1909 in Richmond, Virginia. Its primary purpose was to publicize and propagandize women's issues in the state, with the goal to win the political vote. Virginia was one of the six states which did not ratify the amendment.
